SLAP-HAPPY / John Berbrich: Write a letter

Posted by slap08 on May 3, 2009 at 8:37 PM

Well, the meeting last Tuesday was a great deal of fun.  We shared our poems from April's endurance test, writing a poem a day.  This might not sound like a lot, but try it some time.  Those who completed the challenge include Nancy, JeanMarie, Kelly Frost, & myself.  The assignment for next time is to write a poem in the form of a letter, or a letter in the form of a poem.  I think it works out to the same thing.  By "letter" I don't mean a letter of the alphabet; I mean like a missive.  You can write to someone you don't know.  You don't have to be yourself either.  Have fun.

Tomorrow night is the drama at the Black Box Theater in Satterlee Hall, SUNY Potsdam.  Three plays, "Colleen's Story" by Rick Henry, "Buddies" by Maurice Kenny, & "Mites" by Alan Steinberg, all Potsdam professors.  The action starts at 7:30 so don't be late. I plan to attend.

And "Friend of SLAP" Janice Brabaw has started up a new literary quarterly called Persephonous Blue.  The first issue is due out over the summer.  The deadline for submissions is June 30th, 2009.  She's calling for poetry & short fiction under 2000 words.  Send to Persephonous Blue c/o Tangled Up In Blue Productions,  629 Grand Street, Brooklyn, New York 11211.  Or e-mail your submission to Janice at TangledUpInBlueProductions@Gmail.com.  If you get in you'll get one free copy.  Janice grew up in Hermon, but has been living in NYC since graduating SLU in 2001.  She's looking for raw, frank, & honest material.

And that's it.  See you next week, Mother's Day.
